Description: SEAMAAC, the Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition, is an umbrella organization consisting of five Mutual Assistance Associations (MAAs), including ACANA and the Chinese Association, sites where we also send Project SHINE coaches. SEAMAAC’s mission is to assist Southeast Asians to thrive in their home and life. To accomplish this goal, SEAMAAC offers an array of services including HIV/AIDS prevention education, immunization education, prenatal case management, after-school and summer camp programs for children 5-13, CHIP application assistance (health insurance for children), intervention and truancy program for troubled youth, GED preparation, translation and accompaniment services. They provide many services, including job training and placement, as well as youth services. The adult ESL and citizenship classes are held on-site at SEAMAAC’s office at 2300 South 7th St., as well as at a variety of community ethnic organizations. Coaches in general work within the ESL classes, and in some cases the teachers match coaches with learners who need one-on-one assistance.
