Type of Instruction: Coaching (tutoring an individual student or small group outside of class)

Site Supervision:  ESL Coordinator

Schedule:  Open scheduling.  New World requires its tutors to meet with the ESL Coordinator for an on-site orientation before tutoring starts.  Tutors will schedule their tutoring time with the ESL Coordinator at that time.  New World is open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., but the availability of rooms is more limited at night so mornings and afternoons are better.

Description: The New World Association of Emigrants from Eastern Europe (New World Association, NWA), incorporated in 1982, is a community-based organization dedicated to the educational and socioeconomic empowerment and societal integration of the Eastern European immigrant community in the greater Philadelphia area. Services New World offers include adult education, human services, legal, supportive services, career development, children and youth and referral services. Although this is considered a coaching site because it has an ESL program, tutors typically work with learners one-on-one outside of the ESL classes.

Public Transportation from Temple University
Take the Broad Street Line to City Hall and transfer to the Market-Frankford Line going eastbound. Get off at the Frankford Terminal, which will be the final stop. Go down to the street level of the terminal and locate the bus post for the #58 bus. Take the #58 bus and get off midway between Grant Ave. and Red Lion Rd at the Presidential Shopping Center.
