Description: For the most part, Maria de los Santos is a community medical center. The Community Learning Center, an agency in Kensington which offers adult education programs, provides an ESL teacher to give a class at this location. (They also offer classes at Mann Older Adult Community Center and their main office). Tutors at Maria de los Santos will coach in a larger ESL classroom.
Learners participate in multilevel classes, where not all of the learners are literate in their native language, Spanish. Learners at Maria de los Santos want to learn English for various reasons, including for work, citizenship, communicating in the larger community, health issues, and talking to children’s teachers. At this site it is not required to speak Spanish to be an effective ESL coach.

Public Transportation from Temple University: Take the northbound Broad Street Line Subway to Allegheny. Take the 60 Bus eastbound on Allegheny. Allegheny has lots of curves; so don’t get nervous when the bus makes some turns. Get off of the bus at 5th Street. Maria de los Santos is across 5th Street and on the other side of Allegheny.
Driving: Head north on Broad Street (away from Center City) for a little over a mile. When you get to Glenwood Ave, make a right. Follow Glenwood Ave for a half-mile. Turn right when you get to Allegheny Ave. Maria de los Santos is at 455 Allegheny.
