Description: Community House is a senior high-rise building on the grounds of Albert Einstein Medical Center and home to Korean and African American Seniors. Community House is rent-subsidized apartment residence which receives subsidized rental income from the HUD 202 Program. The residence’s goal is to allow the low income elderly members of the surrounding community to “age in place” with dignity, feel secure, and have convenient access to supportive services and excellent medical facilities of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network (AEHN). Learners’ proficiencies range from the beginning to low intermediate level. Knowledge of Korean is helpful for tutoring, but not necessary for tutors.
Other Site Activities and Services: Peer education health workshops, yoga classes, and resident social events
Public Transportation from Temple University:
From Temple University, take the Broad Street Line north to the Olney stop. Walk
east about three blocks along Olney Ave and make a right on 11th St.
You should see Community House Senior Residence on your left.
Once you’ve arrived at Community House Senior Residence you’ll see a telecom
entry system at the front gate. For safety reasons, residents cannot be asked to
open the gate. All entries must be made through the entry system. Look for the
Social Service Office code and enter it. Identify yourself as a SHINE tutor and
you will be buzzed in. If you don’t get through to the social service office you
should try the Main Office code. Once you have entered the residence you need to
sign in at the front desk.
